Since July 8, 2023, Northwest India has experienced relentless rainfall, causing extensive damage in several states. Himachal Pradesh, in particular, reported 14 major landslides and 13 flash floods by July 10, resulting in casualties and unprecedented destruction of infrastructure, bridges, power plants, and other assets.Numerous national highways, such as Parwanoo-Shimla, Kiratpur-Manali, Pathankot-Mandi, and Shimla-Reckong Peo, have been severely affected, causing the closure of approximately 765 roads, including the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway. Most affected Districts are Mandi, Hamirpur, Kullu Manali and Kangra. To ensure the safety of around 70,000 tourists, they have been evacuated from the State. The death toll as of July 25, 2023, has surpassed 150, with an estimated total loss amounting to INR. 10,000 crore. In response to the dire situation, the Doctors For You team took prompt action by visiting the flood-affected areas in Mandi and Kullu Manali regions, conducted observational assessments, and engaged with the affected people to comprehend their challenges and needs better. The team recognized an urgent requirement for humanitarian aid, including medical assistance, nutrition, clean water, and sanitation facilities, to address public health emergencies and support the resilience and recovery of the affected communities. To address the Himachal Pradesh floods, Doctors For You collaborated with government authorities and CSR partners to deliver crucial humanitarian assistance. They deployed a medical team to aid the displaced communities and families taking refuge in relief camps. Special attention was given to patients with chronic conditions, particularly Non-Communicable Diseases, providing consultations to effectively manage their health conditions. The organization also conducted awareness sessions to sensitize the people about health and hygiene measures, further contributing to the relief efforts in the affected regions.
